State Fair Time!

Last week we took a few hours and went to the Fair. Now let me tell you it is possible to go, enjoy a few things and NOT spenda fortune! We received free tickets AND a parking pass, so that helped. We saw all of the things that each of us wanted to see, we each got a treat of our choice and only ended up spending $17.00!!! That's right! In years past I have had a budget of at least $100 for the Fair. Not this year. We did it cheap and made it fun. Drew even said - this was one of the best years of going to the Fair.

All Jules has talked about for the past year was being able to do Little Hands on the Farm again. So we headed there first. Mary was a good sport and joined in on the fun with her sister.

Mary did Jules' hair for the Fair. For some reason Jules always wants to strike a pose for the camera. This kid cracks me up sometimes!

Notice my trim and svelte hubby behind Jules? Mmmm hmmm.

Getting ready to sell their goods.
Getting paid for everything they 'sold'
FREE Bomb Pops for the girls. Perfect treat for a hot day!

After that we headed over to see all of the (stinky) baby animals. The girls loved the baby pigs. Drew and I however did not love the stench - woowee. It was bad. I especially loved all of the videos of the babies being born that they were playing for all to see. Let's just say Jules was grossed out and full of questions afterwards!

And yes she ate the whole thing. Mary and Drew also got a frozen Snickers from the General Store - Total $4.00!
My pumpkins with a pumpkin.
The highlight for both girls was being able to touch a real cow. Jules kept wanting to go back and do it again!

Until next year!

Jules and Anna

We were able to grab a quick breakfast with Martha and Anna last Sunday. The girls are really going to miss each other this year now that they will be in different schools. All the more reason to get together as much as possible with them! They have both truly blesssed our lives and I am so glad they are our friends!!

They both brought bunnies to breakfast - random. They are definitely kindred spirits!
Lots of hugs and love. Too cute!

Jules' new love...

...SWIMMING!!! She loves to be in the pool (just like her mama)! This summer we were fortunate enough to have friends that have a pool. It was just what we needed on these super hot summer days. Jules took right to the water and it helped that she was able to stand in the shallow end this year.

Look at the happiness of her face. Now if I could just convince Drew that we need a pool in our backyard...... :)

This Weeks Bargains!

Shopped it up at Target last night. Got some GREAT deals!

I find a lot of tips on Moneysavingmom.com and Hip2save.com

Target now has their own coupon website. They are coupons you can only use at Target, but you can stack them with a manufacturer's coupon and save even more!! That is how I found all of these deals last night.

$76.33 worth of stuff for only.....

That's right! And yes that is a pair of denim shorts you see AND a new belt for Mary. Oh and a Dora DVD. GREAT Deals!

I can't wait to start shopping for Christmas Presents and see how many things I can get for free, or practically free!

I also got some great Christmas Presents for the girls from Amazon yesterday. Right now all of their Melissa and Doug craft items are up to 70% off! I was able to get $96.24 worth of things for the girls for only $31.00!!!

Floods of 2010

Well needless to say the downstairs bedroom is a disaster. Many things will need to be replaced, but at least we are all safe and alive. And we were still in the process of decorating and getting things into Mary's room. It could have been far worse.

On Monday night the Egress window filled to the top with mud and rain water, and then came crashing through the window. Yep. Broke the window. It was one of the most unbelievable things I have ever seen.

If you look closely, you can see all of the water in the window and the window is starting to bow...
...all of that water eventually made its way into the house and...

...the window broke.

So we are onto (more) new carpet and more clean up. I am SO thankful for Drew. He has worked so hard while I have been at work during the day to get things moved out of Mary's room and the main living area and getting things brought upstairs to haul away. I know I say this a lot, but I love that man.

Sometimes I Forget I am Married to a Chef..

...and an extremely talented at that!

On Monday night Drew wanted to cook for his family. Since we only have 2 nights together a week, we try to make the most of it and lately have just been going out to eat. But in all reality, there is no meal at any restaurant that (for me) compares to what Drew can make at home.

He really spoiled us on Monday night. Seriously one of the best meals I have had in a long time.

I will admit, I made a new (and fantastically delicious) broccolli dish and Drew and Jules did the rest. Let's talk about Jules for a second. I don't know how we got to be so lucky, but this girl LOVES her some vegetables. Last year when the Dr. asked her what her favorite food was she replied "Red Peppers!" He was in total shock. He said every other kids says Chicken Nuggets or French Fries. Jules will literally ask "Mommy can I have a snack? Something good for me and healthy?" I don't think many 4 year olds can say that! So she was in heaven with Monday night's dinner. I love this kid.

Dinner was amazing and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us this Monday night. Oh wait, we are going to the Fair....somehow $50 corndogs and $20 lemonade doesn't sound as appealing to me right now.

Here Come the Judge

On Monday Drew was asked to Judge for the food competition at the Iowa State Fair. He judged the appetizer category for entrants who made something using either Bisignano Salad Dressing or Bisignano BBQ Sauce.

I had Monday off, so I was able to go with to watch him in action.
It was fun and neat to see all of the winners faces (we watched a few other categories, before Drew did his judging). This one woman (had to be in her 80's) took 1st place in her category for cakes. She said it was the first time she had ever entered after years of people telling her she should enter her angel food cake recipe. She was tearing up when she won. Then a little later they gave the Blue Ribbon for the Best Overall Cake for every category and she won that too. By that time she really broke down. It was so sweet to see and I have to admit it made me tear up too. It was just about the sweetest thing (no pun intended) :) I loved watching the whole process and I hope Drew is asked back again next year to be a judge! It took me back to when Courtney and Morgan would enter food in the competitions (and win) every year. I think we will really look into Mary doing it next year.

Jules came with us (she had a rough night at Grandma and Grandpa's and we decided to pick her up early.) She was SOOOO proud of her dad being up there as a judge. She kept whispering to him "Hey daddy!" and then giving him a thumbs up. It was too cute. The people around us thought she was just about the most adorable thing ever. This one older lady asked if she could take her home. Jules also took all of the pictures of her daddy. She couldn't contain her excitement in being there. It was one of those great memory moments with her.

Discussing who should win....
...Drew announcing the winner! It was a dish made with turkey wrapped in bacon and BBQ sauce. Sounds good to me!

Date Night!

On Sunday Night, Drew and I went on a much needed date night. Jules spent the night with my grandparents and we hit the town. Actually we just went to dinner and a movie, but it was still nice to be with Drew - just the two of us for the whole night.

We went to dinner at Felix and Oscar's and then went to see the movie Dinner for Schmucks. Movie was o.k. - funny, but I thought it would be funnier.

The best part of the night was walking out of the movie into a torrential downpour and lightning storm. We were soaked by the time we got to the car and saw lightning hit many things on the way home. Scary stuff. The whole way home we were praying that our electricity was still on. Thankfully it was. But when we walked in we heard a trickling (sp?) sound and went down to check out Mary's room. Not good. Not good at all. Water was about 18 inches high in her egress window and pouring out the bottom. Her room was already soaked and the main living area was slowly getting wet as well. So at 1 in the morning Drew and I start hauling everything out of her room and wouldn't you know, the power goes out. Lovely. So we moved the rest by candlelight.

Good times I tell you. Still it was nice to spend the evening with Drew and as we have seen before in our marriage, we work fantastically together during a catastrophe.

I love that man. :)

Happy Birthday Maddie!

On Saturday Jules and Mary attended their friend Maddie's birthday party. It was at Glazed Expressions. I haven't been there in years and I now have the creative spark to go back and make Christmas Presents for Everyone!!! :)

The girls had a great time and created some beautiful materpieces!!

Miss Hollywood in an outfit she put together herself. Love it!

Mmm hmm, those cupcakes tasted as good as they look.

Jules was very into her creation. She wanted everything to match her room perfectly. :)
Mary made her own coffee mug. Yes she drinks coffee - occassionally. She is a coffee lover at heart - just like her dad. :)
Isn't it lovely....

Maddie enjoying her cupcake. All of the girls thought this face was hilarious and laughed for a good 10 minutes. Cauuuuuute!
Happy 6th Birthday Maddie!
