Catch up....

It has been a long couple of weeks. Jules had been sick and we had to take her to the ER last weekend. She had a terrible case of strep throat. It was so hard to watch her be in so much pain. Thankfully the meds worked and she seem to do better after a day or two of taking those. Then I was sick last week.

I ended up having a virus that settled in my lower back and the pain was absolutely horrible. I really think it was worse than any pain I had with my C-Section. I went to the Dr. and they prescribed some pain reliever and a muscle relaxer. Just when I was starting to feel better, Lauren, Jules and I were rear-ended on Sunday. Ugh! Lauren and I both have some painful whiplash and Jules had some back strain. Thankfully no one was severely hurt, but it was still kind of scary.

Mary is pretty much done with her first year of homeschooling. Overall I think it went pretty well, but since her mom was the one homeschooling her, it was hard not being able to see her as much as we did when she was in regular school. We are still thinking about what will be best for her as she starts 5th grade this fall.

Drew is still working hard at Johnny's - they are getting busier and busier. Plus he is working hard at getting our backyard ready for the summer. We are planning to make good use of the cement patio in the back of the yard. We have been in our house for almost 3 years and still haven't really done anything with the backyard. We bought a new patio set, a fire pit, some lawn games and we have a 20 ft pool going up in a couple of weeks. Plus we are re-furbishing our deck. Drew is putting up a new hand rail and we are re-staining it this weekend. I am so excited to be outside with Drew and the girls this summer. We as a family are trying to get away from the t.v. this summer and focus on being outside, exercising and enjoying time away from that life-sucking box.

Now that I am feeling better, things with me are going well. I am busy at work trying to get our websites for my area updated and looking good. I am trying really hard to lose weight and get my body ready for another baby. I would like to lose about 30 pounds by the end of the year, so we can start trying again.

I went to a talk here at work on Wednesday and our speaker was a Positive Psychologist on Happiness and Human Potential. He was amazing and had some really good information. One of the things he challenged us to do was write down 5 things that make us happy everyday. They can be big things - like Jules saying "Mommy, I love you" before she went to bed last night, or small things - like Drew saying he will take Jules to daycare this morning.

So, I have challenged Drew and will challenge Mary when she is with us to write down everyday 5 things that make us happy. Our speaker said that after 30 days of doing this, you will be surprise at how much happier you are and how bright your outlook on life is. I am excited to start doing this on Sunday (June 1st) and from time to time I may post what our lists look like. And I challenge any of you to do the same!

P.S. Shawn Achor was our speaker. His website has some good information about his "Positive Psychology".

This week...

Nothing really new to report this week. Jules has another ear infection and had the on-set of strep throat. Thankfully we caught it in time and got her to the Dr. in time.

Mary's last soccer game is tomorrow. It will be kind of nice to have our Saturdays free with her now. We have lots of fun things planned for the summer!

My mom and step-dad Tom will be here in a month for Julianna's birthday. She turns 2 one month from today! I just can't believe 2 years has gone by already.

I have a couple of cute stories about her, but I will have to save them for another blog as I have a project I need to get back to. I will end this one by saying i am LOVING this nice weather! It is about time and I can't wait to take advantage of it this weekend!!!

Jules!

This girl just amazes me everyday. Last night I just stood above her crib and watched her sleep. She is so amazing and beautiful, sometimes I still can't believe she is mine. She is growing up so fast. She will be 2 in a little over a month. She is now talking in sentences 4-5 words at a time and can understand what we are saying to her and asking her to do. The other day she put her rain boots on the wrong feet and Drew said "no, you have those on the wrong feet". She totally knew what he was saying and took them off and put them on the right feet! She is just so darn cute and smart! I know every mother must say that, but I can't help it. I think she is brilliant!

She is doing well with the potty training, though I know most of you don't want to hear about that. But I think she is doing great!

I am excited to spend this Mother's Day with her and just hug and kiss her all day and be so thankful that she is mine!!

I'm 30!

When you have a husband as wonderful as mine, you can be sure that he will make your birthday special. And, that is just what he did for my big 3-0!!!

Sunday I woke up to a nice clean house and my husband making his BBQ sauce. Mmm, such a great smell to wake up to! He cooked and prepped all morning making one of my favorite meals - his bbq chicken and sweet potatoe fries. My sister Lauren and I made a quick run to the store and when I came back there was a card and 4 small boxes sitting on our table. The card was beautiful and inside each box was a pair of earrings, a pair of diamond, pair of emerald (my birthstone), pair of pearl and a pair of ruby (GVC red)!!! I just love them!!!

After lunch with my extended family, Drew and the girls surprised me with my favorite cake from the Bake Shoppe - Almond cake with almond frosting. Soooo good! After that Drew told me that he had made plans for my grandparents to take Jules for the night and that Mary was going with her mom. He then said when everyone left at 3:00 that I would have the house to myself for a couple of hours - hello! This is the only gift I need, an entirely clean house all to myself! He then said to pack an overnight bag and he would be back to get me later.

Let me tell you I enjoyed every minute of those 2 hours I had alone. I read the entire Sunday paper uninterrupted. I watched Reality Bites on Starz, I painted my toenails, and just laid on the couch with the windows open and d.i.d. n.o.t.h.i.n.g. It was the best!!

When Drew came back to get me, he said that he had planned to take me to his restaurant and the new hotel (Holiday Inn and Suites) to show me around (I still haven't been there) and then he was taking me to a suite at the Comfort Suites (where we stayed for our wedding night).
Once we got the the new hotel- he showed me around the kitchen and introduced me to some people. Then he told me that he wanted to show me this suite that he has talked so much about. It is called the "Marilyn Suite" (after Marilyn Monroe). When we got to the door I saw a rose petal hanging from the door. I was like "what is that?" - For those of you that don't know, the night Drew proposed to me he did it at my apartment and when I got home there were 2 rose petals by my door. :o)

So he opens the door to this suite and there in the foyer (yes this suite had a foyer) he spelled out "30" in rose petals. There were more roses and balloons for me in the kitchen. It was AMAZING!!! The suite was bigger than our house and I am not even joking. It was huge! It has a full kitchen, dining room living room, a jacuzzi, HUGE bathroom and massive bedroom. It was unbelievable! I still can't stop thinking about it! We just had the best night. We ordered room service and watched t.v., enjoyed the jacuzzi and just enjoyed our time together. I think the best part may have been being able to sleep in yesterday morning. We didn't roll out of bed until almost 10 a.m. It was just so great. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday or husband. He just knows how to make me smile and fall even more in love with him!!!

Quiet...

Well, the students have left and life here at work is quiet.

A couple of weeks ago, I would have basked in the silence, but after 4 days of it....I am missing the constant noisy, interruptions and my students!

Things will start picking up next week I believe, but it makes me realize how much I love my job and I chose the right new job back in October when I had a few options in front of me.

Blessed. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about the past 6 months and how happy I have been with my job and how I look forward to coming to work everyday. Not many people can say that and I feel blessed to be able to.
