My Last Day!

Today is my last day working for the State, and while I am sad to leave everyone here, I am SO excited to start at Grand View on Monday!

I can't wait to start this new chapter of my life. Once I am settled in with my new job, I will enroll and start taking classes in January. The goal is to try and get done with my degree in the next three years. Then if all goes well, I will continue on to get my Master's Degree. Me...with a Master's Degree - I just can't even fathom it! It will be a lot of hard work, but I think it will pay off in the end.

I am still amazed at how much our family continues to be blessed everyday!

Happy Birthday to my Other Mother!!

Today is my step-mom Sue's birthday!!! I know - how cool is it that her first born (Courtney) was born the day before her birthday! We have a lot of celebrating to do in our family this week!!!

Sue has been such a treasure to me. I could not have asked for someone more wonderful for my dad to marry. She has seen me through so many good times and a few bad times. She loves us all so much and does so much for her family, that we can't even measure how much we love and adore her!!

It will be hard for me to limit it to 10 things that we love about her, but here they are!!

1. She has a contagious smile! She can light up the room when she walks into it.

2. She and my dad are still seriously in love with each other. I see my dad sneak her little love taps from time to time. :o)

3. She is a great Grandma to my girls. I can call her anytime (even at six in the morning when the baby-sitter has called in sick) and she will be more than happy to spend time with them!

4. She has given such great advice over the years. I can't tell you how many times she has put my mind at ease and made me feel better about certain situations.

5. She was a great role-model for step-parenting. I truly feel that God brought me such a great step-mother to prepare me for being a step-mother myself. I have turned to her more times than I can count for advice and encouragement.

6. She is a go-getter. She is doing so great with her Arbonne business and I know that she will be an RVP in the next few years and driving around in her FREE Mercedes!!

7. I just have to put this in here - she has the most beautiful skin you have ever seen. I am serious, it is amazing! Perfect porcelain skin - and she passed it onto Courtney. I think I had more blemishes when I was in third grade than either of them have had their entire lives!!

8. She is a great piano player! I used to love to listen to her play when I was little.

9. She will do anything for her family - even if it means she goes without. I have seen her take care of all of us before herself too many times. Morgan will be out of the house soon, so hopefully she will take full advantage of the empty nest and enjoy it!!

10. She makes some of the best desserts in the world! We never lacked homemade goodies when we were growing up. In fact, I still sneak over there on my lunches to see what new treat she has prepared!!

Happy Birthday Sue, we all love you so much!!

Happy Birthday Courtney!!!

Today is my baby sisters 21st Birthday! I can't even believe it!! Here are the top 10 Reasons we all love Co!!

1. She is SOOOO beautiful - hard to not love someone that gorgeous!

2. She is real - she tells it like it is, even if you don't want to hear it!

3. She is a fabulous aunt to our girls. They love to spend time with their aunt Co!

4. She is a fabulous sister and sister-in-law! She looks to us for advice and I swear I have been able to have an adult conversation with her since she was a pre-teen!

5. She is hilarious. If the Bush clan gets together - there is fun to be had! We can sit and reminisce for hours and never stop laughing!

6. She is engaged to a wonderful man! We all love Jeremy and cannot wait for them to be married in a few years. He is brilliant - so he is in Pharmacy school at Iowa and we don't get to see him that often - but we know he is working towards their future right now. She sure knows how to pick them!!

7. She is SO incredibly talented. She has the most amazing voice and can play the flute and piccolo like no one else! She makes me tear up every time I hear her perform.

8. We can totally be ourselves around each other - whether we laugh, cry, yell or scream. We can lean on each other through anything.

9. Up until I had my daughter, she was the greatest/cutest/ most spectacular baby I had ever seen. I was SOOO in love with her when she was born. I still am. :o)

10. SHE NOW LIVES BACK IN DSM!!!! We missed her so much last year and I am so glad that she is back and able to see us and the girls anytime!

We love you so much Courtney - hope you have a wonderful, wonderful day!!

Weekly Update...

I have been SO busy this week trying to get everything done at work before I leave, doing a lia sophia show, being a mom and wife and dealing with terrible back pain.

I went to the Dr. yesterday (who thankfully is a D.O.) and he was able to do some manipulations and pop my right hip back into place - it was one inch higher than my left and causing all the pain. I feel better today, but I am still pretty sore. Hopefully it will be much better before I start my new job!

Last Sunday we went to the Drake Womens Soccer game. My aunt Mary is the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports information for the University of Florida (GO GATORS!) and they were playing Drake. Since my Mary just started soccer, we thought it would be really great for her to see a college game and it was great to see my Aunt Mary.

My Mary had a blast. She stood on the rail and watched the game with extreme interest the whole time. Florida won! So it was a great game to be at!!

Mary really took to one of the Florida players - who happened to be from Ames - she wanted her picture with her so bad, but I felt bad asking because she was trying to see her family really quick after the game and didn't want to bother her with asking for a pic. So I kind of snapped one with Mary and then Megan in the background. :o)

We will see how much Mary learned at her game tomorrow!!! She is really excited to get out there and show off her new skills!

Here are some pics of the game - Jules had a great time too!

The possibilities are endless!

I have decided to take charge of my life and make some changes!

A few weeks ago my friend Veronica told me about a position where she works. I decided to apply and see what happens - well am I ever glad I did!!!

Starting October 1st I will be the Administrative Assistant for the Student Life office at Grand View College!

With this position comes the ability to continue my education and receive my bachelors degree at no cost to me. In the years to come, our family will be able to attend college for free as well! A FREE COLLEGE EDUCATION for the girls! Can it get any better than that? We are just thrilled!

Grand View is a Christian college, so I will be working in a much more positive environment and with wonderful people. I just can't believe how lucky I am! It is going to be great!

I was beginning to feel like I was in a rut career wise. I mean working for the State has been great, but there really is no room for advancement or change here. NOW, my possibilities are endless. I will be able to do so much more with my degree and continue on a better career path.

It still amazes me how much the Lord continues to bless our family!!!

Please Pray for this family...

....a few months ago I stumbled on this blog. http://wilhoite.blogspot.com/
This woman is not much younger than me and has been battling cancer for just over a year. I have read each of her posts, prayed for her, cried for her and hoping for a miracle. Well that miracle came yesterday as she was sent home to be with her Lord. I can't imagine what her family is going through. She has a husband and a young son. I can't even put into words how they must be feeling. She was one of the strongest women I have ever seen and even though I didn't know her, I know that I will in heaven one day.

Much peace be to you now Amy as you watch us all from Heaven!

SO proud of our little Triathlete!

Yesterday Mary participated in her first Triathlon. She did such an amazing job and we are all SO proud of her. She had to swim 4 lengths of the pool, then run to her bike, dry off, get her socks and shoes on and head out for the bike ride portion, which was about a mile and a half, then drop her bike and run for about a mile. She was amazing!!! And she did it all in about 20 minutes! She had a blast and indicated that this is something that she wants to continue to do.

So we are hoping the family pass to the pool will help her with her competitive swimming and a new bigger bike (perhaps for Christmas) will suit her better for competitive biking. She did such a great job and was really proud of herself too!

Jules was pretty proud of her big sis too and cheered her on by saying "go" and clapping! Too cute!

Ready to Go!

Getting ready to get in the pool!

Out of the pool and running towards her bike!

Changing really fast!

Go Mary Go!!!

Heading towards the Finish Line!

Tired, but..... .....happy & proud!

Random Pics

Here are a couple of random pics from this weekend. On Saturday my sister Courtney and I took the girls to the Urbandale pool, so Mary could train for her Triathlon on Sunday.

I did not know about this gem of a place. It is indoors and open year round. We are going to get a family membership, so we can enjoy it all year and hopefully look better by this time next year!!!

Jules wasn't too sure about the pool, but she loves the water, so it is just a matter of time.

The others are of Jules goofing off. It is what she does best!!
