Saturday night the girls and I headed down to the Hesses Haus to meet Drew's mom and step-dad. They are polka lovers and their favorite band was playing, so they invited us down for dinner and to dance!
Let me tell you - it was SO much fun! Mary and I got out on the dance floor while Bob taught us how to Polka! Jules was a little more reserved, but eventually came around and danced with Mary.
And the food. Oh.my.word. Delish!!! We just had a great time and I always love spending time with Drew's mom and step-dad, so it was a great night all around. Enjoy the pics. Oi Oi Oi!!!!
Saturday was the Summer Fest Parade in Pleasant Hill. We are lucky in that it goes right past my grandparents house, so we have some of the best seats in town. It was fun and Mary's "candy box" was the hit of the parade!!!
Genevieve, Veronica, Kerry and Kerry's mom joined us for the parade!
The girls were ready.....to get some candy!!!
Genevieve was excited for it to begin!
It's about to start!
Jules did not care for the loud police cars and firetrucks!
Sue's employer was in the parade - Miller the Driller!
The Candy Box - You wouldn't believe how many people kept throwing candy, just to try and get it in there! It was awesome!
Needless to say, we will be eating off of this until Halloween!!!
I am not sure if many of you know this, but Drew and I LOVE old cars. We could go to a car show or watch a classic car auction on t.v. for hours and be perfectly content. Well Friday night we were able to go to the Classic Car Auction down at the fairgrounds. Drew had won tickets on the radio, so we took the girls and went to check it out. It was so much fun! Some of the cars were amazing! We all picked out our faves. Mary was especially infatuated with a Shleby Cobra. She would like that as her first car. :o)
Last night Drew, Jules and I were talking and all of a sudden she turns to us and says "When I grow up I am going to school far away and you can't come see me" "Nope, I will be there by myself and you can't come and kiss me or see me".
I don't know why, but it made me tear up!
After that we started talking about Kindergarten and I said that Mommy and Daddy would take her on her first day (granted this is still 2 years away), walk her in to her teacher and then tell her to have a good day and leave. To this she replied "Nope, just to the door and then I will go in by myself!"
I wanted her to be independent, but I fear it may break my heart at times!
...well, after one 24-foot truck load, 15 car trips, one trip to the ER (jules), one trip down a flight of stairs (me), one asthma attack (me again), many stubbed toes and pinched fingers, and LOTS of eating out, we are moved in! Not settled by any means, but at least everything is in the house....now I just hope I can find a place for everything! I think I see a garage sale in my future!
Can I just tell you how much I HATE moving. Actually, I LOVE moving to new, fun places, but I detest the actual act of moving. But we did it. Drew and I both had 5 days off together, so it was nice to be with each other moving everything together. And, thankfully we had some great help. I could not have done it without the help of my friends the Chapman's. They came over Friday with their 2 girls and helped to get the house cleared out. Let me tell you those girls were hard workers. The person that helped us the most though, was Mary. What a workhorse. She was amazing and just kept going. I am so thankful she was able to be with us all week and help out so much. Drew and I will be taking her to dinner, a movie and the mall in the near future to show her our appreciation! I honestly don't think we would have been out of the old place without her help!
We are excited about this new house. It is very quaint and cute. Not quite as big as we are used to, but I think once we get everything put away and settled it will suit our family just fine. The girls love the big front yard, Drew loves the garage and I love the peace and quiet. I took Jules on a walk Monday night and there are no sidewalks, so we had to walk in the street. We went up and down 2 different streets and didn't see one car. It was great! I think it will be a great place for our family!
Please feel free to stop by and see us anytime. If you would like our new address, just email me and I will send that to you. firstname.lastname@example.org
Here are a couple of pics of the new house. I will post pics of the inside once we get everything settled and decorated!
Drew's 3-car garage. He is in HEAVEN, let me tell you!!
....it has been a couple of busy months. I have tried to post when I can, but life can get away from you pretty easily.
I will try and give an update of our life briefly as I have tons to do here at work because I am on VACATION for 5 days starting tomorrow!!! Woo hoo!
Now I would love to say we are going some place exotic and wonderful for our vacation, but we will be staying here in good ol' Des Moines....MOVING!
Now I know you are saying "Chefstinsonfamily, didn't you just move?" Why yes we did. 7 months ago to be exact.
At the beginning of May our current landlord put her house on the market as she needed to try and get it sold as soon as possible. So we started looking for a new house. We ended up finding a great 3 bedroom house with all three levels finished in the Windsor Heights/Beaverdale area. We took possession yesterday and will spend this lovely 4th of July weekend moving in!
I LOVE our new house and can't wait to get everything settled and to start decorating! The basement is finished and is the perfect size for Drew's man room AND a playroom/craft area for the girls. Mary will have the entire third level to herself. You can imagine how excited she is. It will be like having her own little apartment up there!
I will post some new pics of the place once we get things settled. The outside of our new house is amazing. I can't wait to enjoy the new deck and yard!!
Not much else is going on. Just packing and tossing. I can't believe how much stuff a family of four can accumulate. I have tons that I am getting rid of. It feels good to de-clutter, plus it will be less to move into the new place! (Drew is appreciating that).
Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful July. I will post again next week when I return from my "vacation"!
