Catch up....

It has been a long couple of weeks. Jules had been sick and we had to take her to the ER last weekend. She had a terrible case of strep throat. It was so hard to watch her be in so much pain. Thankfully the meds worked and she seem to do better after a day or two of taking those. Then I was sick last week.

I ended up having a virus that settled in my lower back and the pain was absolutely horrible. I really think it was worse than any pain I had with my C-Section. I went to the Dr. and they prescribed some pain reliever and a muscle relaxer. Just when I was starting to feel better, Lauren, Jules and I were rear-ended on Sunday. Ugh! Lauren and I both have some painful whiplash and Jules had some back strain. Thankfully no one was severely hurt, but it was still kind of scary.

Mary is pretty much done with her first year of homeschooling. Overall I think it went pretty well, but since her mom was the one homeschooling her, it was hard not being able to see her as much as we did when she was in regular school. We are still thinking about what will be best for her as she starts 5th grade this fall.

Drew is still working hard at Johnny's - they are getting busier and busier. Plus he is working hard at getting our backyard ready for the summer. We are planning to make good use of the cement patio in the back of the yard. We have been in our house for almost 3 years and still haven't really done anything with the backyard. We bought a new patio set, a fire pit, some lawn games and we have a 20 ft pool going up in a couple of weeks. Plus we are re-furbishing our deck. Drew is putting up a new hand rail and we are re-staining it this weekend. I am so excited to be outside with Drew and the girls this summer. We as a family are trying to get away from the t.v. this summer and focus on being outside, exercising and enjoying time away from that life-sucking box.

Now that I am feeling better, things with me are going well. I am busy at work trying to get our websites for my area updated and looking good. I am trying really hard to lose weight and get my body ready for another baby. I would like to lose about 30 pounds by the end of the year, so we can start trying again.

I went to a talk here at work on Wednesday and our speaker was a Positive Psychologist on Happiness and Human Potential. He was amazing and had some really good information. One of the things he challenged us to do was write down 5 things that make us happy everyday. They can be big things - like Jules saying "Mommy, I love you" before she went to bed last night, or small things - like Drew saying he will take Jules to daycare this morning.

So, I have challenged Drew and will challenge Mary when she is with us to write down everyday 5 things that make us happy. Our speaker said that after 30 days of doing this, you will be surprise at how much happier you are and how bright your outlook on life is. I am excited to start doing this on Sunday (June 1st) and from time to time I may post what our lists look like. And I challenge any of you to do the same!

P.S. Shawn Achor was our speaker. His website has some good information about his "Positive Psychology".
