A Stinson Getaway!

For Christmas Drew and I decided to forget about gifts for each other and take a trip - just the two of us - instead. On Friday morning we left for 3 fun filled child-free days. We had such a great time. We had originally planned to go to Chicago, but after deciding that we DIDN'T want to use most of our money for parking in downtown, we decided to head to our hotel just north of Chi-town and explore Wisconsin.

On Saturday morning we ate breakfast at Frank's Diner in Kenosha, Wisconsin. We had seen this diner on one of our favorite shows on The Food Network - "Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives". The place was awesome! It is the oldest Diner in the country. Super small, but lots of fun. We got to sit next to some locals at the bar seating area and we had a front-row seat to the grill and the 2 owners rockin and rollin through breakfast. The food was amazing, but the atmosphere was fantastic! We will definately be back. They even made Drew's day when they said that he was by far the tallest guy that had ever sat at the bar, or had even come into the place. He feels he has a part of their history now! http://www.franksdinerkenosha.com/

Then we headed up to Milwaukee to tour the Miller Brewery. And while I am not a beer drinker, it was pretty neat to see the area and to see the brewery. The entire brewery is a site in itself. The buildings are almost a hundred years old and it was neat to watch the process. I really enjoyed the historic caves and Drew really enjoyed the free samples at the end. :o) http://www.millerbrewing.com/

After the brewery we headed back to our hotel - I mean the best part of a trip away from home sometimes is the hotel - and ours was pretty sweet! But first, we stopped off at Whole Foods for dinner. Their salad bar was wonderful and I have found a new addiction. This place is amazing. I think it is everything that The Market was trying to be. Drew and I have decided that we like it so much that we are driving to Omaha once a month to stock up on goodies from there. My goal is to now try and get one in Des Moines!! http://www.wholefoods.com/

Right next to Whole Foods is the new Elizabeth Arden Salon. My mom works for Elizabeth Arden Spas in Phoenix and she wanted me to find the new salon. It was beautiful. Really stylish and contemporary.

Sunday we took our time coming home and went to another place we had seen on The Food Network - Superdawg - A hotdog stand that has been around since 1948. It was really retro and cool and the food was delish! This place is a local favorite and I think it is one of ours now too! http://www.superdawg.com/

After that we headed home. We were missing the little babe something fierce. When we walked in the door and she came running saying "Mama" "Dada" and gave us hugs, we couldn't have asked for a more perfect ending to our trip!

All in all it was a great time and it was nice to have some alone time with Drew. We laughed, cried, reminisced and SLEPT! It was the perfect weekend!
